Unlikely Collaboration

Ryan Gosling is always doing something completely opposite that anyone would ever consider doing with his charming looks and talent. That's why I have chosen him as the monthly swoon.

No one expected him to collaborate with L.A. Inner Mass Choir and The Silverlake Conservatory of Music Children's Choir and come out with the album called, Dead Man's Bones. Some of you may know that this choir group is also infamous for being featured in "Another Brick In The Wall" by Pink Floyd.

The music is actually really soothing with a folk sound to it, but can also be played in the background during a Halloween party. Well what could you expect when their inspiration came from Disney haunted mansion? The idea to start the band in the first place was initially for a film, but the thing took off into a full-fledged album.

My favorite is Ryan's obvious piano skills. Also the live sound of the band just gives the rumble of the piano an extra flare in the song, "Buried in Water". The song "Pa Pa Power"is something that could go next to the genius' of The Yeah Yeah Yeahs when they collaborated with Spike Jonze for 'Where the Wild Things Are'. And I know I shouldn't love a song sung by a children's choir titled "My Bodies A Zombie For You" , but I find it has a lovely melody. Like everything else, its available on iTunes. I know it's past Halloween, but I'm sure anyone can get in the spirit anytime of the year. I know I can.

The Visitors

Watched a new drama series that aired Tuesday on ABC, which is not my usual choice of network. In fact it seems as if the only Networks that I feel worth tuning in to these days are FX, NBC, and HBO. Did a hard hit on the economy force networks to settle for lack luster shows? I will give props to a new form of Television that aired on FOX this season called Glee. I am now thankfully singing along to my television shows these days. Increasingly annoying my sister.

Anyways back to my original discussion, the name of the new show that aired this tuesday, is called V. I still have yet to learn what the exact meaning behind V means, but I took a guess that its short for visitors. Not your average kind of visitor, but the other worldly kind, such as aliens. While watching I tried to figure out the underlying metaphor, which my family constantly hates that I do and ruins their quality 'mindless' entertainment time. The visitors were not your average slimy beings, but looked like attractive humans. Their main leader is a beautiful black woman with nice cheekbones and a plan to heal humans of any health issues for no fee. As you can guess a majority of everyone is happy to receive these aliens with hardly any speculation at all in return of HOPE -are we getting the metaphor yet? ; )

The only thing upsetting about this is of course these aliens are a wolf in sheep's clothing and are planning to organize something evil on the world in the near future. Isn't that how every alien plot line go? All I have to say is that its a bold show that was obviously written by a devout Republican seeking a medicinal medium to hate on Obama's effort to restore health care. Honestly, I hate going into politics and this is the reason why I tune into scripted drama every week to escape the never-ending list of problems America has. I don't need someone sneakingly feeding me a political standpoint with a bunch of Aliens right now. Can't say how long this show will last but ABC sure put a lot of money into it, which is the case for any sci fi unless it airs on the actual sci fi channel. I didn't mean that last remark, I'm honestly a fan of the sci fi channel that changed its logo since I was last in the states. The network has decided to misspell the word and have shortened it to Sy Fy. In the philosophy of Obama, it needed a little change.

*Disclaimer: I am not making fun of the president in any way. I am only writing a review on the content of the ABC network show.

The Office Forever

If any of you readers are avid Office fans, I know you teared up over Jim and Pam's wedding. The episode was an Office classic involving every one's best antics.
Jim and Pam being sneaky again ran off to Niagara Falls
while leaving the others at the alter. Their second set of vows I think tops Niagara Falls,
copying the famous youtube clip of a couple walking down the aisle to the Chris Brown song
Forever. Wish I could have thought that up for my wedding in the future, then I would have
missed out on the whole office getting 'down' on the aisle. Hey I guess nowadays we want to
start the reception even earlier. I have no objections.

High Upon Reading

Woke up in the middle of the night with a terrible bloody nose and blamed it on all the coke. No no no I would never do that, It was all the dehydrating cocoa cola I drank yesterday to stay awake. I've never understood the whole glamor of a drug habit, which I didn't think could be glamorous. Then I concluded the only way it could possibly be glamorous is if your last name is Phillips and you've survived years of drug use with Mick Jagger and the likes, become sober, write a book about it and appear on Oprah.

Yes, if you haven't guessed I'm speaking of Mackenzie Phillips, John Phillips of The Mamas & The Papas' daughter. After watching her honest appearance on Oprah I undoubtedly decided to read her autobiography knowing it was going to be a hefty read. Some of the highlights or should I say low lights of her life were: at age 10 she tried her first sniff of coke. Lost her virginity before age 14 and was raped at age 14. Had sex with Mick Jagger when she was 18. Started a long incestuous relationship with her father at age 19. You name it and the list goes on.

Mackenzie had a lot to tell in the fair amount of pages of her autobiography and I could feel her need to quickly put the painful events on the pages. Some of these moments and especially the painful moments I thought were rushed into sentences and spared important details. I don't mean she had to go into in depth detail about what she did with her father but she could have gone into more detail about what she thought and felt about this abnormal relationship. Overall her stories and life alone are a great reason to pick this book up and urge others to read because I hate to say it under her poor circumstances but its an entertaining read. It goes the deepest and closest I've ever seen or read about the glamorous and horrifying reality of growing up with fame, power and money. And who doesn't want to know the true realities of it when all we get a glimpse of are paparazzi shooting impersonal zoom lens photos of celebrities.

Indie Review

On the topic of sex lately, I just watched an indie movie on Hulu.com for free and was surprised at how great of romantic comedy it was. The characters seemed real aside from stanny who appeared to be acting at some points in the film, but all is forgiven. The concept is great because I think its something that both sides of the sexes would fantasize over. Amber Benson plays the lead female role, which is great because I loved her in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I always thought she deserved more sassy roles like this. All and all it was an entertaining romantic Romantic Comedy So check it out for free at Hulu.com.

Imaginative Sex Scenes

There are many film sex scenes that are very sexy, but its the ones that are outside of the box that I love the most and sometimes love the movie just for that scene alone. So I compiled a list of my favorite sex scenes that you may want to consider watching yourself. I tried to make each film different because hey everyone has different taste.

1.
I HEART HUCKABEES:Nature and sex go hand and hand. Sex truly is a dirty act.

2. ATONEMENT:
The sexiest scene ever. This scene isn't put in the film for show, its a marker for their happily ever after demise.

3.

WATCHMEN: I'm a huge fan of cheesy cliches when its done right and Watchmen does it right. The cut away to the zephyr blowing out fire is a classic I dont care what others think.

4.

DOMINO: Acid and sex in the middle of the desert,
need we say more. Keira Knightley always delivers sexiness.

5.
RISKY BUSINESS: A classic and only a classic because its on every ones list of the top public places to do the deed.

6.
THE BROWN BUNNY: just because its
the most interesting part of the whole
film and well worth the wait.

7.
SHORTBUS: almost every scene in this film is an amazing sex scene. I cant choose what one is the best.

8.

EYES WIDE SHUT: This film is on the list
because it succeeds at our biggest desire.....mystery.

9.
BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN: It made everyone reevaluate what love can be.

10.
THE WAYWARD CLOUD: The watermelon scene is the best and will leave you confused, which is why you'll have to laugh.

11. A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE:

Seeing your partner in a light can sometimes be sexy.

12.
GRINDHOUSE: Men have weird fetishes and a stripper with a machine gun leg sometimes happens to be one.

Esra Roise

I absolutely love Esra Roise illustrations. They're simple, but their also something I wish I could have thought of doing. She's still in university, but that doesn't stop her from being the new up and coming illustrator. You can also notice her love for sketching hair, which can sometimes add millions to an illustration. Well I'll let you be the judge; love or hate, but always appreciate : )
