I absolutely love Esra Roise illustrations. They're simple, but their also something I wish I could have thought of doing. She's still in university, but that doesn't stop her from being the new up and coming illustrator. You can also notice her love for sketching hair, which can sometimes add millions to an illustration. Well I'll let you be the judge; love or hate, but always appreciate : )
Loved seeing Bryan Sheffield's Photography in the issue of Nylon Men. Sifting through Bryan Sheffield's photography I envied how he captures a portrait, making it seem natural from the environment and lighting. The lighting seems to come from one point and fade into the photo, which makes your eyes appreciate what details are given of the subject. I'll Admit I would have never picked it up if Eli Roth wasn't his subject. Eli Roth is only the most sexy Jewish man I've ever seen...aside from a guy I met at a bar who wore a tailored grey-stripped suit and tie, with large rimmed black glasses along with his cute curly locks. I couldn't help but stare and he noticed, in which case I told him he was the cutest Jewish man I had ever seen. He awkwardly didn't know how to respond. I laughed and turned to my friend never seeing him again *dammit!*
Sorry got sidetracked there. Back to the 2nd cutest Jewish man...Eli Roth, as you probably know is the creator of the unfortunate Saw saga( don't you love how everyone now excessively uses this word circa the twilight craze? ) What I choose to know him for is the Bear Jew from Inglorious Basterds. If you haven't seen it, you have to NOW! I'm not saying it will change your live (unless you've had a Nazi revenge wish your whole life), but it will make you rethink what your favorite Tarantino film is. I advise bringing a boyfriend or girlfriend as there are plenty of opportunities for fondling when you cant take those gory scenes. ; )
So I lied ... I could not separate myself from my blog. I just love to write for you guys. Today I managed to take a break from my work and leave to go to the mall where I usually directly walk into Borders and flip through the over priced shelves of books I wish I could immediately put on my wish list on Amazon. Apparently you are able to do this with an iPhone, but I currently have no phone and no money. Welcome to my life. My phone has decided to break a month before I leave for the states and I refuse to buy a new distraction to my life.
After wandering through Borders I settled on the magazine section praying to see a new copy of Nylon, but I'm always disappointed. So I end up flipping through thousands of graphic design magazines that are more like glossy paged books. You might as well make them books because they're not much more expensive. Settling on a magazine I happily skip home with my friend and pop in the bonus DVD only to make me think I'm watching a trippier version of Yo GabbaGabba! But I love it! The french pair Ben and Julia are power quirky team with a mix of illustration, Graphic Design, and live action. So if your life seems a bit boring these days this should spice it up:
Sometimes I'm accussed of having an overactive imagination, which I consider a compliment. Although most of the time it gets me in trouble rather than out. When I'm stressed and go through an unimaginative state, my subconcious tends to catch up with me in my dreams. Random is the only way I can describe it. Just last week I had a dream in which me and a group of friends went on a spiritual trip to the Himalayas and while we were there we went in search of my best friends boyfriend, who we found working in a WalMart at the top of the Himalayans. Missing the states too much has therefore forced me to go insane with random American product placement in my dreams. On the subject of WalMart I would also like to announce that they have also 'randomly' decided to tell Obama of their new proclaimed plans to benefit employees with health insurance. Who knew. Well anyways, after reflecting on this I found and artist online who features product placement in his artwork (featured on left) I hope you enjoy. Happy Dreaming!
This months featured artist is Igor + Andre, who have been apart of the blogosphere for a while now. While scanning the illustrations they remind of something out of a comforting children's book, read every night before bed. Of course some of the images are a little more grown up with partial nudity, but I think we can get past that.

Jason Noctio's photography is great. He really knows how to capture a celebrities persona. Its this balance between their vulnerable self and the outer image that hey work so hard to maintain. Here are a few of his photos:
My eyes glazed over when I saw the fine sharpie strokes made into realistic portraits of people on the pages of a magazine. It was as if Van Gogh said "Fuck paint! This is the new age bitch!"- I can't quote him directly on that. Up close the illustrations are scary, but from a non-crossed eyed view they appear amazingly intricate. Looking through them I decided it was time to pull out my sharpie fetish that has long been in the closet.
Looking back at my last semester's education I realized that I have learned more about the array of fetishes than anything else. This was of course the doing of the genius mind Scott Knight, my sex & society profession, who resembles a small, nerdy Jewish man with a subtle obsession with James Spader. This could also be construed as a fetish, but I'm not quit sure. Looking through the lecture slides I began to realize that I have more perversions than I realized. So in dedication to my Sex & Society education I am including a small section of what I have concluded as fetish art. The feature includes the artist, Jansson Stegner and well, you can guess what type of fetish she has:
In February my friends and I decided to head to Sydney for a Gay Mardi Gras experience. While bar hopping the town, (on the account that the receptionist gave us a stack of coupons to different pubs around the city, which we used to our full advantage) we 'stumbled' upon the MCA,museum center of arts. Being broke students realizing that this museum was free of entre plus the effects of free drinks in our system we found ourselves a little too overjoyed at this juncture.
To furthur contribute to our trip down the rabbit hole the main art exhibit was by Yayoi Kusama, a genius artist in the 60's, who's art work was created while on a combination of acid or shrooms. As we made our way up the elevator and reached the floor the double doors opened I felt as if I was in the circus hall of mirrors. Walking through the rest of her exhibit I began to notice a pattern. DOTS. She has an obsessive liking to dots. The more dots I saw the more I wanted to know the mind of this psychedelic lady. So reading into her obession of dots I learned that they represent the earth, the sun, or the moon. And her use of dots were to bring people back to the nature of the universe. Intriguing concept at that moment from my particular state of mind, but the further I went down the rabbit hole the buzz continued to wear off and I was convinced this women was insane in remarkabley good way.
