Unlikely Collaboration

Ryan Gosling is always doing something completely opposite that anyone would ever consider doing with his charming looks and talent. That's why I have chosen him as the monthly swoon.

No one expected him to collaborate with L.A. Inner Mass Choir and The Silverlake Conservatory of Music Children's Choir and come out with the album called, Dead Man's Bones. Some of you may know that this choir group is also infamous for being featured in "Another Brick In The Wall" by Pink Floyd.

The music is actually really soothing with a folk sound to it, but can also be played in the background during a Halloween party. Well what could you expect when their inspiration came from Disney haunted mansion? The idea to start the band in the first place was initially for a film, but the thing took off into a full-fledged album.

My favorite is Ryan's obvious piano skills. Also the live sound of the band just gives the rumble of the piano an extra flare in the song, "Buried in Water". The song "Pa Pa Power"is something that could go next to the genius' of The Yeah Yeah Yeahs when they collaborated with Spike Jonze for 'Where the Wild Things Are'. And I know I shouldn't love a song sung by a children's choir titled "My Bodies A Zombie For You" , but I find it has a lovely melody. Like everything else, its available on iTunes. I know it's past Halloween, but I'm sure anyone can get in the spirit anytime of the year. I know I can.

Jewish Muse

Loved seeing Bryan Sheffield's Photography in the issue of Nylon Men. Sifting through Bryan Sheffield's photography I envied how he captures a portrait, making it seem natural from the environment and lighting. The lighting seems to come from one point and fade into the photo, which makes your eyes appreciate what details are given of the subject. I'll Admit I would have never picked it up if Eli Roth wasn't his subject. Eli Roth is only the most sexy Jewish man I've ever seen...aside from a guy I met at a bar who wore a tailored grey-stripped suit and tie, with large rimmed black glasses along with his cute curly locks. I couldn't help but stare and he noticed, in which case I told him he was the cutest Jewish man I had ever seen. He awkwardly didn't know how to respond. I laughed and turned to my friend never seeing him again *dammit!*

Sorry got sidetracked there. Back to the 2nd cutest Jewish man...Eli Roth, as you probably know is the creator of the unfortunate Saw saga( don't you love how everyone now excessively uses this word circa the twilight craze? ) What I choose to know him for is the Bear Jew from Inglorious Basterds. If you haven't seen it, you have to NOW! I'm not saying it will change your live (unless you've had a Nazi revenge wish your whole life), but it will make you rethink what your favorite Tarantino film is. I advise bringing a boyfriend or girlfriend as there are plenty of opportunities for fondling when you cant take those gory scenes. ; )

Monthly Swoon

I am not a huge fan of Star Trek, but find it more watchable than its equal nerdy friend Star Wars. Mainly, for its ability to not take itself too seriously. When I was 13, the highlight of new entertainment in Vegas (where I lived at the time) was the Star Trek Experience ride at the Hilton. So of course I had to experience this amazing ride for myself. Leaving with my friends and their family without a care in the world I freaked when I walked into a large room recreated to look like a scene out of Star Trek with crazy space creatures walking around. After a good ol' trekky time I arrived home to my mom in hysterical tears wondering where the hell I had been and had gone to report a missing child to the police. Of course as soon as my dad returned home he took my mom's whole dramatic explanation a little less dramatic as my mom had. I have to admit she was probably concerned that I had actually followed through to my many threats of running away from home, which I actually failed to succeed doing later on.

So upon watching the film. I nearly jizzed in my pants when Spock appeared on screen with his pointy ears, over plucked eyebrows and perfectly pronounced large vocabulary. Zachary Quinto plays this spacey hotness, who is more known for the bad guy roll in Heroes.

What about captain Kurk do you ask? He was not doing it for me with the typical bad ass persona and the chiseled jawline. I would like to point out- who was the one who gets the girl in the end? Point taken. I realize that might have been done for the majority of the Star Trek fan base. But I'm all for nerds ruling the universe and getting all the chicks in the end because isn't that what happens in the real world?
